Albany Tennis Club News

by isleofman.com 4th May 2017

Albany/Chrystals Senior Open -Having spoken with Ian Watson (Tournament Referee) on Wednesday he has decided that the entry is not big enough to run this type of event. It is with reluctance that the event is postponed. Having moved our usual date to earlier in the season to aid the Island Games team with some extra match practice we find it is conflicting with so many other events - on and off Island that affect Island players.  Ian will be looking at the island's tennis calendar of events to find a new date probably late July or in August. A new date will be announced shortly.

Thank you to those who did enter - your fees will be returned and we look forward to you entering when the new date is announced.

All junior coaching has re-started and the parents of those who attend mini tennis on Saturdays are invited to re-kindle their skills whilst the children are being coached.

We can lend you a racquet if you don't have one and we hope you want to enrol for some adult/rusty racquets coaching which Ian will be organising in a few weeks time.

I mentioned last week The Road to Wimbledon - Isle of Man qualifying event. The winner of the boys and Girls singles will actually PLAY at Wimbledon. The event is for players 14&U . Players need to be rated 10.2 - 7.1 and have a BTM no. Players eligible are those born between 1 September 2002 and 31st August 2006. In the past few years we only seem to have enough boys entered - but this year we are looking to have 8 girls enter. I would love to see 8 girls playing in the event at Douglas Lawn Tennis Club on the 20 May (if wet on Sunday 21). Entries close on the 18 May and you can enter on line OR e-mail your entry to iomtennis@manx.net  - details have been e-mailed to all our juniors. If you have any queries please contact the referee, Paul Jarvis on iomtennis@manx.net.
