Albany Tennis News

by isleofman.com 27th April 2017

The Albany Chrystals Senior Open tournament, which is being held earlier this year - from Saturday 6 May to Sunday 14 May - seems to have missed the attention of a lot of members and entries are slow.

I need those entries by 6pm on Monday 1 May. The events are Men's/Women's singles and doubles plus Mixed Doubles. The event is run on the old ratings system so you won't be up against the island Champion in the first round, there are cash prizes and medals to be won, with the top group winner receiving ?50. So as the Norwich City chairman once said - "let's be 'aving you"!!. Forms were sent to all members two weeks ago and are being e-mailed again today. There are also forms in the clubroom.

Another event we are looking to boost entries for is The Road to Wimbledon - Isle of Man qualifying event. The winner of the boys and Girls singles will actually PLAY at Wimbledon. The event is for players 14&U . Players need to be rated 10.2 - 7.1 and have a BTM no. Players eligible are those born between 1 September 2002 and 31st August 2006. In the past few years we only seem to have enough boys entered - but this year we are looking to have 8 girls enter. It's an Island wide entry and I can think of 5 Albany girls who could enter. Come on girls, don't be shy, this is a chance many of our seniors would love to compete for. The event will be held at  the Douglas Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday  20 May, with Sunday 21 as a reserve date. Entries close on 18 May and you can enter on line OR e-mail your entry to iomtennis@manx.net  - details have been e-mailed to all our juniors. If you have any queries please contact the referee, Paul Jarvis on iomtennis@manx.net.
