Taekwondo event in Peel

by isleofman.com 19th April 2017

ACE Taekwondo of Peel held its first major local event on 1st of April 2017. The club was pleased to hold a Poomsae (patterns) seminar and competition, incorporating a belt grading, which was held at Peel Clothworkers School.

The club was honoured to invite Master Peter Johnson who holds 7th Dan black belt, is a World Taekwondo Federation International Referee and current world championship medallist.

Master Johnson, who recently won bronze at the WTF World Poomsae Championships in Peru and is a British Taekwondo Para Coach, took the students through an intensive training session which ended with the clubs own Poomsae competition with students winning their own medals for best individual, joint and group performances.

Master Johnson was impressed with the club standard considering the club’s inauguration was only in September 2016.  With determination and positive attitude both from students and parents, the club should be able to move forward and start competing at development level in the near future.

Master Johnson is hoping to return to the island in the future to participate in future events, and perhaps bring some of his own students from Stoke UTA Taekwondo.

Neil Ecolango, ACE Taekwondo's founder commented: 'I am so proud of all students, from white belt through to black, and from age 5 upwards. All students showed determination and discipline to make the event a family fun day and success'.

Neil would like to extend his huge thanks to parents who supported the event and Friends Provident International for making the event successful – the support means the club was able to invite a world class coach and competitor who can share their skills and experiences.  Anyone interested in learning Olympic style Taekwondo please contact Neil Ecolango on 390901 or check out the ACE Taekwondo Facebook page.
