Mylchreest Marshals & Medical Facility

by isleofman.com 18th April 2017

April 2016 saw the Mylchreests Group donate one of their hospitality units, which was ‘surplus to requirements’ to the Southern 100 Marshals Association to use as an office during the three race periods at the Billown Course.

Twelve months later after a winter of refurbishment by Southern 100 committee member, Derek Broadhurst the unit now has a dual role as a Marshals Office and also a Medical Centre and will be situated in the area adjacent to the Southern 100 Headquarters at the end of Castletown By-pass.

Renamed the Mylchreest Marshals & Medical Facility the unit was commissioned just prior to Easter in the presence of the Mylchreest Group, the Rob Vine Fund & Hogg Rescue Ambulance and Manx National Heritage personnel.

David Mylchreest, Managaing Director of the Mylchreest Group said: ‘The unit has been totally transformed and we are delighted to see it being put to such good use especially with the Medical Centre being built into the unit.’

Dr David Stevens MBE of the Rob Vine Fund commented: ‘This facility now allows us to treat riders when necessary as well as members of the public when required.

He continued, ‘The standard of medical care for road racers on the Island is now as high as it’s ever been - this unit now it has been kitted out by the Rob Vine Fund adds to the already high standards.’

Also present was Gaynor Haxby of Manx National Heritage who confirmed that Marshals who sign-on for the Blackfords’ Pre-TT Road Races, the Radcliffe’s Post TT Road Races and the Isle of Man Steam Packet Southern 100 International Road Races will receive fee-admission to MNH sites on production of their warrant cards.

Chief Marshal of the Southern 100 Marshals Association said: ‘The refurbished unit will allow us to deal with Marshals queries in a convivial office where all the documents are available in one place. It will be the central point for all marshal contact during our race meetings at Billown.’
