Isle of Man Archery Club Report - 19th March

by isleofman.com 21st March 2017

There was a decent turn out at Onchan on Sunday with most of the archers shooting a Portsmouth round as part of the Club’s Scratch League. Conditions within the hall were the best they had been all season but the light in the toilet was not working so Club members had to use their phones as torches to guide them at the break.

Pete Mumford was out of action on Sunday after an altercation with a lawn mower left him with an injured shoulder. This meant that there was a straight face off between Dave and Rhys Moore, with Rhys leading from start to finish to take the victory.

Joy Gough was once again the sole female in the Ladies Compound division and recorded exactly the same score as the previous week.

In the Gents Recurve, last week’s Handicap winner David Smith added another 41 points to his pb for the round but had to settle for fourth place. Dave Berry put in a solid round but was not at his best and finished third, which left Danny Cowin and Josh Trafford to fight it out for first place. Danny managed to stay in contention over the first two dozen arrows but then Josh motored away from him to take a comfortable win. Matthew Elliott was in training for the Invictus Games again and elected to shoot a WA18 round.

Barbara Harris started well but faded after the break to put in a rather average score.

Jacob Brookes, James Hill, Toby Young and Nathan Kinrade vied for glory in the Junior Gents Recurve. Nathan Kinrade posted a pb for the round but had to settle for fourth place. Jacob Brookes put in a solid round to finish in third. James Hill put in a personal best score to secure second place but a tired Toby Young still won by a comfortable margin.

Tilly Ashton had a difficult day but maintained her concentration throughout in spite of a problem with her finger tab.

Once again Lesley Sleight and Colin Moore elected to shoot a Worcester round, Lesley on her Trad Bow and Colin Barebow. Lesley’s score was a little down on last week’s effort but Colin added another 13 points to his pb for the round and broke the Club Record for the second week running.
