Albany Tennis Club News

by isleofman.com 16th March 2017

Another of our juniors has been testing his skills in the UK recently.  Roch Mirski (12) who has an 8.1 rating played in a grade 3 ( regional) tournament in Bolton and won 3 out of 4 matches  he lost to Oliver Hague (7.2) 6/2 6/1 but then won his other 3 matches in the Consolation Draw. beating James Ashworth(8.1) 6/0 6/3; Ethan Barret (8.1) 6/0 6/2 and Kyle Hughes-McCabe (7.2) 6/3 2/6 (10-6) to win the consolation event. Well done Roch all the time you spend at the club is paying off..

NB - juniors and their parents - 6pm Saturday (18th) entries close for the Nedgroup Junior Open. Fill in your form and leave it in the office or the white post box. You should all be used to this routine by now. This is my final "NUDGE" to all juniors who haven't yet entered the Nedgroup Junior Open - coaching is not the be all and end all of playing tennis - you have to enter competitions and find out if what you have learnt works. If not then more practice and try again. Albany stages 3 open and one closed junior event each year and we want to see all of you taking part plus we will welcome juniors from all parts of the Island plus visitors from the UK.

Quiz Night - hopefully members are busy entering teams with Kirsten Hall our Social Secretary - e-mail her at social@albanyltc.co.uk. We will be running a raffle and I already have some nice prizes but a couple of Easter eggs would add to the variety of prizes on offer.

We had a working party last Saturday despite the weather and progress was made on cleaning the courts thanks to Bryan Sharp, David Kennaugh, Ian Copley, Garethh Rooms plus non-members Julie & Dougie Lister. There will be more to do this Saturday from 12noon to 2pm and Sunday 10am - 12noon, so please spare an hour or so - it isn't strenuous and many hands make light work.
