The event, for which the Mac Group was lead sponsor, was held at the Palace Hotel, attracting more than 200 guests, including His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Sir Richard Gozney, the Mayor of Douglas Councillor John Skinner, Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK, Isle of Man Financial Services Authority chief executive Karen Badgerow and four founding members of the institute’s organising committee.
Guest speakers included author, columnist and a past president of the Chartered Insurance Institute Alan Cleary, who spoke at the first Insurance Institute of the Isle of Man dinner and Lloyd’s of London chief executive Dame Inga Beale.
Insurance Institute of the Isle of Man president Peter Gallagher took the opportunity to reflect on the growth of the organisation since it was founded 30 years ago and its commitment to supporting professional development and strengthening links with other financial services bodies.
The event also served as an occasion to celebrate excellence within the financial services industry with three professionals presented with awards for their achievements: Sarah Curphey, Samantha Hall and John Walker.
A raffle and auction were held, with the proceeds to be divided equally between the Insurance Charities, which provides financial and practical assistance to those who work in the industry, and Mr Gallagher’s chosen charity for his year in office, the Salvation Army.
The Insurance Institute of the Isle of Man is the local branch of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and also includes members of the Personal Finance Society (PFS). It acts as the educational representative body for all insurance and financial services professionals on the island.
