Isle of Man Archery Club Report - 28th February

by isleofman.com 28th February 2017

Thirteen members of the IoM Archery Club turned up at Onchan on Sunday to shoot a metric round as part of the Club’s Handicap League. The round of the day was a WA18, with the Seniors shooting the smaller triple face target and the Juniors shooting the larger single face.

Renovations to the Hall at Onchan have made conditions difficult to say the least but Sunday was the worst day yet, with heavy winds blowing straight through the gap in the doors of the fire exit down the shooting line. Aaron Pannell-Cottier and Jacob Brookes who were closest to the door suffered the most, finishing well down the field after the handicap had been applied.  Inspite of the intense cold Pete Mumford had another good shoot topping the Gents Compound scratch scores by virtue of gold difference from Rhys Moore. After the handicap was applied however both men tied in equal fourth place.

Nathan Kinrade had a few misses until he got into his stride but still managed to add a couple of points to his pb for the round and took third place after handicapping. Fellow Junior James Hill kept all of his arrows on target to post the second highest Boys score and was take the overall win after the handicap was applied. Barbara Harris, shooting with heavier limbs and a borrowed string managed a season’s best score in the Ladies Recurve division which put her into second place overall.

Matt Elliott had to pull out of the shoot half way through but managed to shoot enough arrows to count as a Bray I and could therefore be included in the handicap. Colin Moore shot the round Barebow and Lesley Sleight put her Traditional Bow to good use.
