Rob Haddow, Group Data Protection Officer and Corporate Governance Officer at Equiom is one of the first on the Isle of Man to obtain the Practitioner’s Certificate in Data Protection. Accredited by The Law Society (of England and Wales) and The Bar Council, the Certificate is one of only a handful of industry specific qualifications for professionals in the fields of data protection and privacy.

With the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect in the Isle of Man next year, the expertise and knowledge required of a Data Protection Officer has reached a new level. Rob’s new qualification, which focuses on the practicalities of data protection legislation, will enable him to better guide us through the necessary requirements involved in implementing the new regulation and allow us to go even further in protecting the privacy of our clients and staff.’
Rob, who is already a qualified Isle of Man Advocate and Chartered Certified Accountant, added: ‘This new qualification helps to demonstrate I have the skills required and expected of my position as Equiom’s Global Data Protection Officer. As my job involves overseeing Equiom’s compliance with data protection laws in each of the jurisdictions we operate in, including oversight of Equiom’s local data protection officers in each of those jurisdictions, it is important for me to have an in depth understanding of the general laws surrounding this area. I have found the course very beneficial and I have already put a number of its teachings into practice for Equiom’s benefit.’
