PwC's Alison Cregeen qualifies as a Data Protection Practitioner

by isleofman.com 16th February 2017

PwC Isle of Man is delighted to congratulate Alison Cregeen on passing with Distinction the PDP Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection programme to become a qualified Data Protection Practitioner.

Alison is a Senior Manager in the firm's advisory services and leads the data protection service offering. With the fast approaching enforcement of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force in May 2018 data protection is high on the business agenda and will result in widescale data privacy transformation requirements across every organisation. Local companies are considering what action they need to take to comply, as it impacts every entity that holds or uses European personal data both inside and outside of Europe.

Alison commented: ‘I’m very pleased to have qualified as a Data Protection Practitioner. GDPR has focused attention on data protection and data privacy and completion of the course has complemented my current skillset with a thorough knowledge of data protection law and understanding of the practical implications of GDPR, to advise our clients about the actions they need to take.

In recent months I’ve been working with a number of local companies assessing what impact the GDPR is likely to have on them, and how best to prepare for it. If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be that there is no “one size fits all” approach to GDPR remediation, and the first step for any company is to determine what the risks are for their business before embarking on a costly remediation programme.’

PwC Isle of Man’s advisory services team is led by Director Steve Billinghurst. Steve said: ‘I’d like to applaud Alison on her outstanding achievement. At PwC we strive to meet the future demands of our clients. Alison’s Data Protection Practitioner status further supports our local data offering with expertise in data assurance, data governance and cyber security. The importance and role of data within any business has increased significantly; data capitalism has become the new financial capitalism and PwC are perfectly placed for this new data economy.’
