Albany Tennis Club News

by isleofman.com 9th February 2017

At their recent AGM our Friday Morning Ladies section confirmed several events will be held during the season. So please make a note of the following dates: The Summer Lunch  Friday 16 June ; Strawberry Coffee Morning Friday 7 July; Macmillan "Big Stir" coffee morning Friday 22 September and Harvest Lunch Friday 13 October. The organisers work hard arranging these events so please support them if possible.

Are you enrolling members or friends for your team in the Annual Quiz Night 31 March? Details will be announced shortly - your contact is Kirsten Hall - e-mail social@albanyltc.co.uk.

Membership renewals will be sent out shortly - to qualify for the discount offered you must re-enrol by 31 March 2017. Any queries contact Jan Gaskill - e-mail membership@albanyltc.co.uk. We are due to name how many teams we wish to enter in the summer leagues this year, SO it would be very helpful if members who wish to play league tennis tick the relevant box. Club captain, Jackie Russell would be really pleased to welcome new members into the squad. You can find out more by contacting her by e-mail  captain@albanyltc.co.uk.

The Isle of Man LTA has confirmed that Albany will host this year's Senior Closed Championships from 11  - 18 June. This date has been chosen to give the Island Games team extra match practice. This year the Games iarein Gotland and proving very expensive so if any member can suggest possible sponsorship if only for the Albany members in the team it would help. The team will be announced shortly.

The fund raising for the lounge carpet has received a very generous anonymous donation for which we are grateful. Don't forget to buy a ?3 square when you are next at the club. There are 6 prizes for the winning squares.

Two of our juniors were in Manchester last Sunday playing in the Virgin Active Under 12 Winter Tour. In the girl's event of 15 players, Charlotte Clarke reached the final winning - 1st R 4/2 4/1, QF - 4/1 /4/3, S/F 4/1 4/3 but lost in the final 4/2 4/2 . Meanwhile Roch Mirski played in the boys event winning 4/1, 4/0 His Q/F match was a tough one losing 3/4 2/4 to a player with much more experience gained by playing  27 tournaments last year. It is hard to gain that amount of experience here. Tennis, like other sports is a tough sport when you live on an Island - travel time and costs can be a real handicap. So well done to both players and if any other of our juniors (or seniors!) are playing in the UK please let me have your scores. Your fellow members are interested.
