ICSA event – ‘Meetings and minutes: When to read the riot act’

by isleofman.com 6th January 2017

Peter Cannell, advocate and chartered secretary at Quinn Legal, will give the next presentation for ICSA’s Isle of Man branch. The event, sponsored by Quinn Legal, will cover ‘Meetings and minutes: When to read the riot act’, and will take place on Thursday 12 January at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas.

As an advocate and a chartered secretary, Peter is well placed to advise on corporate and commercial matters. In addition to undertaking more traditional corporate work, Peter has become something of a ‘go to’ man for unusual corporate structures and their uses.

Other than a period during which he undertook voluntary work, including a two-year commitment as the company secretary of a major UK charity, Peter has worked in fiduciary services since 1986. In this field, Peter has been involved in setting up and looking after trusts and companies, and has broad experience in the world of international planning. As an expert in regulatory, governance and compliance matters, Peter has specialised in designing and managing bespoke corporate structures. These include using traditional share-issuing companies, guarantee and hybrid companies, unlimited companies, foundations, PCC’s and the Isle of Man Limited Liability Company.

Peter has been a regular speaker on the legal and practical aspects of compliance, corporate administration and corporate forms. More recently, he has also been advising on and providing training in respect of the new Freedom of Information Act.

Peter said of the event: “Meetings and minutes stretch far beyond what people might initially expect, and can actually have serious legal implications if not conducted properly.

“Our talk will delve into a broad range of meeting types, from those organised in a public setting to private meetings held in an office. It will be a useful, topical discussion for people who organise and run meetings, and in turn, for those who attend them.”

The event starts at 6pm. Admission is free to members. Places for non-members (subject to availability) are ?10 each.
