Isle of Man Archery Club Report 11th December

by isleofman.com 13th December 2016

A handful of archers braved the cold to turn up at Onchan on Sunday to shoot a Worcester round as part of the Club’s Scratch League.
The largest field of the day was provided by the Gents Recurve with Josh Trafford, Danny Cowin, Simon Jennings, Dave Berry and Tony Hartley looking to win. Simon Jennings had a good day adding 41 points to his pb for the round but had to settle for last place.

Dave Berry put in a solid round that was marred by a miss towards the end of the shoot to come in fourth. Tony Hartley shot well to place third but the fight for first place was between Josh Trafford and Danny Cowin. They were all square at the end of ten arrows but Danny managed to open up a 2 point lead over the next ten arrows, which he maintained until the mid-session break. After the break Trafford had an unaccountable miss which gave Cowin a 4 point lead. Josh shot brilliantly over the next ten arrows to bring the deficit back to just 1 point but then had another miss with one of his last arrows to hand the win to Danny.

Colin Moore elected to shoot a Barebow round.

It was a straight head to head between Rhys Moore and Pete Mumford in the Gents Compound division. Pete Mumford made the perfect start hitting the centre of the target with his first thirty arrows. By the mid-session interval Rhys Moore had dropped two points and it was looking like Pete would take the win but after the break Rhys maxed his score while Pete dropped his first point of the shoot. Mumford still had a one point advantage going into the last ten arrows but unfortunately he dropped two more points to finish 1 point behind Moore.

Joy Gough had an excellent round, dropping only 8 points over the course of the shoot in the Ladies Compound.

Barbara Harris made a terrific start in the Ladies Recurve but struggled badly after the interval recording two misses.

Lesley Sleight shot a barebow round and finished just 2 points off her personal best.

In the Junior Boys Recurve Nathan Kinrade had a nightmare of a shoot recording a host of misses and posting a score that was not representative of his skill level.

Tilly Ashton had a slow start in the Junior Girls Recurve but persevered to add 4 points to her pb for the round.
