by isleofman.com 6th December 2016

The Island’s Bio Med sector held a packed one day conference at the Manx Museum on 30th November 2016 which looked at the Future Growth and Development of Isle of Man BioMed. The conference was opened by Laurence Skelly MHK Minister for the Department of Economic Development and the Minister for Health Kate Beecroft MHK. Among the speakers were leading lawyers Miles Benham and Carly Stratton of MannBenham Advocates.

Miles Benham gave a presentation on how the Island has successfully used its legislative powers to create and grow vibrant industry sectors and how this experience could be applied to the Isle of Man BioMed sector. The talk was well received and Miles joined a number of leading practitioners on the panel discussions which looked at issues such as the best way to structure the establishment of a BioMed company on the Island.

Carly Stratton of MannBenham had the pleasure of introducing their speaker, Patent Attorney Catherine Mallalieu of D Young & Co a leading intellectual property law firm which is celebrating its 125th year in business. Catherine is a highly experienced patent attorney who represents major international organisations across the chemical and biological sectors. Miles commented:

“The event was a great success and gave positive signs on the development of the Isle of Man BioMed sector going forward.  At MannBenham we specialise in commercial matters and we are delighted to be working with D Young and Co as it gives the ability for people on the Isle of Man to have the access to top tier Intellectual property expertise.”
