Island advocates attend meeting of international lawyers

by isleofman.com 28th November 2016
Corlett Bolton represented the Isle of Man at a gathering of international lawyers in Madrid.

Sally Bolton and Julie Ronan were among the specially invited guests at the Cicero Biannual Meeting, hosted by Spanish legal firm Ceca Magan Abogados.

The Cicero League of International Lawyers, which Corlett Bolton was invited to join earlier this year, brings together legal firms from around the world to discuss and formulate professional and commercial ideas to assist member firms and their clients involved in international trade or services.

With only one firm from each jurisdiction invited to join, Corlett Bolton is the Isle of Man’s representative on the League. This recognition of the firm’s long-standing reputation not only promotes the Isle of Man on the worldwide stage, but also means that through its branches in Douglas, Peel and Port St Mary Corlett Bolton can provide access to international advice and legal services to local residents and Manx expats.

During the meeting, the first held since the firm joined Cicero, Sally and Julie gave fellow members from around the globe a presentation on the Isle of Man and the Corlett Bolton business. They also outlined the benefits to member firms’ clients of the Invention Box offering, which, serviced through sister company Corlett Bolton Administration Services, gives advice and protection for intellectual property.

Corlett Bolton Director Sally explained: ‘Cicero is an opportunity to share and discuss legal industry developments in jurisdictions around the world, and meet international colleagues who we may be able to work with to deliver worldwide services for clients. Our first meeting as the member firm representing the Isle of Man was a tremendous experience where we were not only able to explain more about the Isle of Man and answer questions, but also to outline what Corlett Bolton can offer clients of fellow member firms.

‘Many important topics of mutual interest were discussed during the biannual meeting, but there were also opportunities to get to know colleagues from countries like the USA, Australia and Russia and form important personal contacts which will enhance the international services we deliver to our clients.’
