IoM Archery Club Report 20th November

by isleofman.com 22nd November 2016
The IoM Archery Club was in action both at home and abroad at the weekend. A small numbers of archers turned up at Onchan, while a larger group braved the storms to take part in the NCAS Championships at Preston. Both groups shot a Portsmouth round.

Expectations were high for the group travelling to Preston as IoM Club members have had a lot of success over the years at the NCAS shoot. The Compound Team Trophy did indeed return to the Isle of Man with the combined scores of Dave, Rhys and Ethan Moore and Joy Gough securing the silverware. Toby Young was the only individual to win a group, coming first in the u14 Recurve.  For the rest it was a case of nearly - with Josh Trafford placing second in the u18 Recurve, Joseph Reaney shooting a pb to finish second in the u16 Recurve and Joy Gough coming in second, just 1 point behind the winner in the Ladies Compound. Joy was particularly cross having shot two eights that would have changed the outcome.

At Onchan Matt Elliott posted a pb to take the win in the Gent’s Recurve. Simon Jennings added 16 points to his pb but have to settle for third place behind Alex Parkes.

Barbara Harris shot her default score in the Ladies Recurve.

Colin Moore abandoned his Compound bow to shoot a Recurve Barebow round and managed to score with all his arrows and get some good groups into the bargain.

James Hill was the only Junior to shoot at Onchan and he put in some fine ends although the intense cold was energy sapping.

Results Portsmouth – Gents Recurve – 1. M.Elliot 60/506/15pb, 2. A.Parkes 60/452/5, 3. S.Jennings 60/414/5pb. Ladies Recurve – B.Harris 60/525/18. Junior Boys – J.Hill 59/409/5.
