by isleofman.com 3rd November 2016

At their regular Board Meeting on Monday 31st October the Chairman Robin Turton and Commissioners welcomed the new Chief Executive and Clerk Michael Morrison.

“We are pleased to welcome Michael”, says Robin Turton, Chairman “and look forward to working with him to lead the continued delivery of efficient and effective local government for the residents of Onchan District.”

Michael joins the Commissioners after spending 20 years as a Civil Servant and has a wide range of experience working in many areas of Government and in the private sector. He is also a registered pharmacist practising both in the Island and in the UK and has previously operated the pharmacy in Onchan Village.

“I am pleased to be appointed as Chief Executive as I was born in Onchan” says Michael, “having been part of the community for many years I am pleased to lead the highly regarded team at Onchan Commissioners and look forward to the challenge of providing services to rate-payers and tenants”.

Michael recognises the challenges of providing services in an environment of change and in particular where central Government wish to see a greater role for local authorities in the delivery of services to their communities, “Onchan is well placed to deliver services to the community and has proven expertise in this area”, says Michael, “However, we need to ensure that where services are transferred there is a need to ensure that the costs of these services are allocated appropriately between tax-payers and rate-payers.
