Well we have all recovered from the busy time with the Dinner, Tombola and the visit of Mrs Cathie Sabin OBE, President of the LTA. Comments from all those involved agreed it was a real success and is firing up some members with enthusiasm for future events. Meanwhile Ian Watson, Club Coach, was busy completing the club juniors Championships and a pleasing aspect of this was being able to run the red ball U8 with girls and boys in different groups. The winner was Sophie Christian, 2nd Phoebe Davies and 3rd Charlotte Geldart. In the boys U8 Ryan Nelson was the winner, closely followed by Henry Dawson. This group had some close matches.
There was an even better entry in the Orange ball (U9) with 14 players - boys & girls together playing r/robin matches initially. Group A winner Orry Farnworth r/up Jared Shepherd; Gr B winner Callum Larkin r/up Florence Leigh; Gr C winner Greg Kelly r/up Zac Colligon; Gr D winner Ryan Colquitt r/up Holly Roberts. These 8 progressed to a qtr final - results: Orry bt Zac 10--1, Ryan bt Florence 10-4, Greg bt Jared 10-4, Callum bt Holly 10-8; s/finals Orry bt Ryan 10-3, Greg bt Callum 10-4; Final Orry bt Greg 10-5. Green ball (U10) r/r winner Ben Bosworth 5 wins r/up Orry Farnworth 4 wins. In the under 18 singles - r/r winner Sean Drewry r/up Jack Christian. The under 14 event is still to be completed. Thanks to coaches and parents who umpired the Mini Tennis U8 matches. Trophies were presented by Club Chairman Stuart Colligon.
Congratulations to our Mixed A team on winning division one. They managed a draw against Castletown A on Monday to clinch the title. This season has been a difficult one for Club Captain, Jackie Russell in trying to find enough players keen to play league matches. A lot of our members go away on business, there's been illness, injury, family matters and shortage of time through work commitments much more than in previous seasons. Let's hope we can encourage more players to step up to the mark and play for the club teams next year.
