ManSat to stage 5th Space & Satellite Regulatory Colloquium in Washington DC

by isleofman.com 14th October 2016

The ManSat Group is co-hosting its 5th annual Space & Satellite Regulatory Colloquium, the only event of its kind in the world aimed at legal and regulatory professionals working in the industry.

The now annual conference is held in collaboration with Dentons, the largest law firm the world, and SatNews, the largest publisher in the satellite industry, and takes place on Thursday, October 20 in Washington DC.

ManSat created the colloquium in 2012 to provide a global platform to discuss key issues surrounding space and satellite law and regulation. This year will see speakers from every major satellite operator, manufacturer, launch provider, and law firm take part - all focused on the law and regulation of satellites.

ManSat carries out satellite filings for the Isle of Man under a contract with the Isle of Man Government's Communications Commission.

Chris Stott, CEO & Chairman of ManSat, will speak at the opening of the event before chairing one of the day’s 11 panel discussions, with his focusing on ‘ITU and satellite spectrum issues’.
‘This is the only event of its kind in the world, the only time those focused on satellite law get together in an event tailored for their specific requirements and the benefits and advantages of the Isle of Man are forefront.,’ Chris explained.
‘There are events throughout the calendar for the satellite industry in terms of launch, manufacture, ground systems, broadcasting, and for financing. Yet there was never an event for those involved in space and satellite law that brought together the actual practitioners with their regulators. So we created this event, and it continues to grow, with numbers increasing year on year.’

Dr Del Smith, Dentons’ Senior Space Business Counsel, said: ‘We are very proud to present the 5th annual Space and Satellite Regulatory Colloquium together with ManSat and SatNews.
‘The commercial space industry has been undergoing an exciting and transformative phase due to an unprecedented proliferation of start-ups and disruptive technologies. A new era has begun.
‘We have a terrific lineup of highly accomplished speakers, and we are looking forward to very interesting and thought provoking discussions and analysis on the state of the industry. It is continually humbling to look into the future.’
