CIPD Event: Data Protection, Brexit and the Isle of Man’

by isleofman.com 7th October 2016

Peter Cannell, Advocate and Steven Coren, Senior Associate Advocate at Quinn Legal, will give the next presentation for ICSA’s Isle of Man branch. The event, sponsored by Quinn Legal, will cover ‘Data Protection, Brexit and the Isle of Man’, and will take place on Wednesday 19 October at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas.
Peter is both an Advocate and a Chartered Secretary, being well placed to advise on corporate and commercial matters. In addition to undertaking more traditional corporate work, Peter has become something of a ‘go to’ man for the interesting and unusual corporate structures and their uses.

Other than a period during which he undertook voluntary work, including a two-year commitment as the company secretary of a major UK charity, Peter has worked in fiduciary services since 1986.

In this previous life, Peter was involved in setting up and looking after trusts and companies, and has broad experience in the world of international planning. In addition, being involved in regulatory, governance and compliance matters, Peter has specialised in designing and managing bespoke corporate structures. These included using traditional share-issuing companies, guarantee and hybrid companies, unlimited companies, foundations, PCC’s and the Isle of Man Limited Liability Company.

Peter has been a regular speaker on the legal and practical aspects of compliance, corporate administration and corporate forms. More recently, he has also been advising on and providing training in respect of the new Freedom of Information Act.

Steven is an experienced Civil Litigation specialist. He regularly appears in all Isle of Man courts and tribunals, and has acted or advised in a number of high-profile and high-value disputes in recent years, both reported and unreported. Steven also participates in the Isle of Man Law Society lecture programme for trainee advocates, and in his spare time is writing a textbook on civil litigation in the Isle of Man for trainee advocates and practitioners.
The event starts at 6.00pm. Admission is free to members. Places for non-members (subject to availability) are ?10 each.
