End of an era as clothes store closes its doors for the last time

by isleofman.com 3rd October 2016

It was the end of an era on Friday as menswear store Garrey Corneil closed its doors for the final time.

The closure follows 32 years of business for the Douglas store. But its sister shops, Intersport and Forty Five, are still open for business.

The clothes store was part of the Charles Turner group of companies.

Owner Charles Turner Snr said: ‘It is the end of an era. Garrey Corneil provided quality men’s clothing for more than three decades.
‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who have worked with us over the years and our many, many loyal customers who valued the quality of service they received.’

He added: ‘We are still fully committed to our Intersport store and its neighbouring sports leisure outlet Forty Five, which both remain very busy.’

Garrey Corneil was originally based on the corner of Victoria Street and Duke Street in Douglas, before moving to a more central location in Strand Street.

Mr Turner said: ‘Although we are very sad to lose two staff members from Garrey Corneil, we are pleased they have found work elsewhere. We wish them all the best for the future.’
