Campaign to raise awareness of TV Licensing rules on Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 9th September 2016

TV Licensing is today launching an information and enforcement campaign which will take place on the Isle of Man over the coming weeks.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among island residents of when a licence is required, as a change in the law from 1 September means you now need to be covered by a TV Licence to download or watch BBC programmes on demand – including catch-up – on BBC iPlayer.

As before, you still need a TV Licence to watch or record any live TV on any channel, no matter what device you use. For more information, visit http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/iplayerinfo or watch our helpful video at www.youtube.com/tvlicensing.

Jason Hill, TV Licensing spokesperson, said:
“The silver-medal success of Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish, at the Olympics, was just one highlight of a BBC digital ‘Summer of Sport’, with viewers turning to BBC iPlayer to catch up on the Olympic action, so we want to make sure everyone is aware of the change in law.

“During the campaign the focus will be on making contact with unlicensed addresses on the island to find out whether they need a licence. We would always prefer people to pay than risk a fine of up to ?1,000, so we are letting residents know in advance there is still time to buy a licence or get in touch with us for advice.”

To help raise awareness in advance of the visits, TV Licensing is getting in touch with community groups and public service organisations on the island to provide useful information and to highlight the many ways to pay as well as resources available in different languages.

A colour TV Licence costs ?145.50 and can be bought over the counter at Post Offices, online at www.tvlicensing.co.uk or by phone. As some people struggle to pay for a licence in one go, there many ways to spread the cost, including weekly, fortnightly or monthly cash payment plans and direct debit options, which you can set up quickly and easily online.

More information about paying in weekly, fortnightly or monthly cash instalments is available by calling 0300 790 6127 or at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/payinfo. To make weekly or monthly cash payments, call 0300 555 0300.
