Chief Minister cements UK relationships

by isleofman.com 8th September 2016

Chief Minister Allan Bell CBE has been in London this week cementing key political and media relationships for the Island prior to his retirement next month.

During a two-day visit Mr Bell met Treasury Chief Secretary David Gauke MP, City MP Mark Field, Financial Times journalist Andy Bounds, Treasury Financial Secretary Jane Ellison MP, Ministry of Justice Minister Sir Oliver Heald QC MP, responsible for relations with the Crown Dependencies, and 10 Downing Street Policy Director John Godfrey.

Mr Bell commented: ‘In a world of unprecedented change and challenge we have to build and support our relationships – and our reputation - in order to protect the Island’s economic future.

‘External engagement has been a top priority for me as Chief Minister over the past five years and it will be even more important in the future as the implications of Brexit unfold. Our relations and reputation are stronger than ever before, but maintaining and developing them will require a continuing proactive approach.’
