Cains Plays Role in Hosting Government Officials From 20 Countries

by isleofman.com 6th September 2016

Leading Isle of Man law and professional services group Cains has taken part in hosting a visit to the Isle of Man by 23 senior government officials from 20 countries taking part in the internationally recognised eighth Small Countries Financial Management Programme.

The Programme was organised by the Small Countries Financial Management Centre, an Isle of Man charity, established in 2009.

The first week of the Programme was focused on the Isle of Man with sessions for the participants split between Cains offices at Fort Anne and the Nunnery, both in Douglas. For its second week the Programme moved on to Oxford.

“We were delighted to have been involved in hosting such an important and high profile gathering, with participants coming from the Caribbean, the Pacific, Africa and the Indian Ocean,” said Cains group chairman Andrew Corlett.

As in previous years, the participants were senior public servants, drawn from Ministries of Finance, Central Banks and regulatory organisations, representing a wide range of small developing countries. The intensive two week programme blends leadership, strategic management and negotiating skills, with a practical focus on real work related challenges and improving technical skills.

Executive director of the Programme Mark Shimmin said: “In addition to the high quality of the teaching faculty and the enthusiasm and commitment of participants, a major factor in the success of the Small Countries Financial Management Programme is tremendous support we receive from the business community on the Island.

This is exemplified by the generosity of Cains in allowing us to use their excellent facilities at the Fort Anne for the latter part of the Isle of Man element of the Programme, for which we are extremely grateful. Our participants were very impressed with both the facilities and the warmth of the hospitality provided.”
