The GB Women's Hockey Team has inspired the nation with its success in Rio and will give the Island's hockey season a kick start - especially at Ramsey Hockey Club. A club of nearly 100 members of all ages and abilities, Ramsey Hockey Club is thrilled that LJ Partnership have confirmed that they will continue it's sponsorship. Robert Burton, Director, LJ Partnerships said "Having had a presence in Ramsey for 25 years, LJ Partnership are keen to support a club which offers opportunities for both personal development and teamwork within the community"
A day of hockey is planned for Sat 3 Sept with games and activities to attract new players and get the season started for existing members.
On Sat 3/9 a Come 'n' Try Hockey' session will be held at Ramsey Grammar School Astro turf between 2-3.30pm. Juniors and seniors welcome whether you've played before or haven't done so for years, the session will be a chance to play the game in a fun and relaxed setting. Before the Come 'n' Try people are invited to watch Ramsey 2nd and 1st Teams will take on rivals from Douglas at 11am and 12.30pm.
RHC hopes to build on its success in the 2015/16 session when they had many IOM representatives at junior and senior level and Voirrey Baker and Connor Parfitt were recognised as the islands' Goalkeepers of the Year by the MANX Hockey Association. Although the only silverware was the Ladies Plate won by Ramsey B (pictured) - however other teams came close and the Plate victory illustrates the advantages of having a club that encourages young hockey players to play alongside more experienced adults; an approach that helps new players learn both the tactics and the etiquette of the game as well as the skills developed through the coaching sessions.
"All the GB Team members standing on the podium in Rio started their hockey at a club like Ramsey, and will still play club hockey" says Keith Corkhill, Chair RHC. "Whilst not all of us can play at the Olympics, clubs like Ramsey aim to give all its members the chance to play to their best; enjoying good quality coaching and a strong programme of social events. And, as well as playing there are lots of opportunities for people to be trained as umpires and coaches"
The sponsorship of LJ Partnership is critical to RHC's success, for example it has enabled the establishment of the RHC Development Fund which supports Ramsey players and teams to participate in UK competitions and coaching camps.
