Albany Tennis News

Reminder ref: LTA Tournament Organisers course: This is for all clubs players not just Albany, although the course will be run there on Thursday 8 September – 6pm – 9pm. Cost of the course is ?25 but the first 10 applicants will be free of charge, via an LTA grant. Contact IOMLTASecretary@outlook.com or e-mail the course instructor Ian Watson – ianwatsonpts@manx.net.
This is a very worthwhile course for members to take, especially for the younger ones to add to their CV. Tournaments are more complex these days and clubs need qualified members to run them.

All Albany members should now have a book of Tombola tickets to sell and already many members have sold their book, returning counterfoils and money to me and even asking for a second book. Thanks to the generosity of some members the prizes the club was providing have now been donated and several Manx companies have already promised some very good prizes. All counterfoils, money and unsold tickets must be returned to the promoter by 4 October. The draw will be made at the 50year Celebration Dinner on Friday 7 October and our guest of honour, Mrs Cathie Sabine, President of the Lawn Tennis Association has said she would be pleased to do the honours. If any member thinks they can sell more than one book I still have 12 books not allocated, so ring me 861497 or e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net. Dinner tickets are ?25 for a 3 course meal plus reception drink but if you are a current club member the club is subsidising your ticket by ?5 and they are now available from Mrs Kirsten Hall kirsten.altc@gmail.com

Club Championships split in to two section – Seniors – Men’s and Women’s Singles and Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles from Saturday 10 – Saturday 17 September and Juniors – 26 September – 1st October. Entries by e-mail to ianwatsonpts@manx.net. There is no entry fee for Club Championships as the event is sponsored by Auxesia Ltd. The junior events are Red, Orange and Green ball on Saturday 1st October and Boys/Girls Singles/Doubles u12 and u18. This is to accommodate the company laying a new floor in the clubroom from 19 – 24 September. This will cause some disruption but it is a job that needs doing. All holders of club perpetual trophies won last year are requested to return them to the office, engraved before the start date. Entry forms will be available by the weekend.
