Pokerstars Drag Fest 2016

by isleofman.com 25th August 2016
The Isle of Man's most powerful event in 2016, the Pokerstars Drag Fest, takes place on 3rd and 4th September at Jurby Airfield. With well over 20,000hp ready to blast down the Jurby runway at speeds estimated at over 230mph the Pokerstars Drag Fest, organised and run by the Manx Drag Racing Association in partnership with Straightliners, is open to anyone who wishes to take part with a motorcycle or car in a Dragrace.
The race is run in much the same way as the famous Ramsey Sprint and is open to all vehicles which pass a basic scrutineering test. Riders and Drivers, who must wear a crash helmet plus correct clothing for purpose and hold a full licence or provisional licence, will be accepted on completion of observed runs and are deemed competent to race by the officials.

Six top UK Drag racing teams are making the trip over to put on a show and race against the Isle of Man's quickest Drag Racers. The reigning UK Supercharged outlaw champion Paul Watts from the Isle of Wight is making the trip with his 1600hp 1957 Chevrolet, along with Spencer Tidswell who makes the somewhat shorter trip from Yorkshire with his 1941 Willys Coupe powered by a 9,800cc Procharged Chevy V8. Mark Flavell from Teeside who came over in 2012 and 2013 makes a return with his Pontiac Firebird Funny Car along with Ben Rushforth from Yorkshire who will be trying to put the power down from his V12 Jaguar powered Dragster.

Teams from the Isle of Man include Malcolm Forbes from Sulby with his Chevy powered dragster and Ian Merryweather from Ballaugh with his Supercharged Chrysler Hemi powered 1938 Fiat Topolino which was awarded the best vehicle at the recent Santa Pod event ‘Dragstalgia’ which had in attendance the finest Nostalgia Dragsters in Europe!

The star attraction to the event has to be Julian Webb from Yorkshire with his jet powered Dragster. Capable of speeds approaching 250mph in under 6seconds, all who are in attendance are in for a real treat including those resident nearby!

As for the two wheeled fans, the UK’s and Isle of Man's quickest and fastest 1/4mile Drag bikes will be tackling the Jurby track. Two of the Island's quickest drag races will give visitors some stiff competition. Gary Leach from Kirk Michael on his Kawasaki and Peel’s Paul Callow with a new bike will be hoping he is fit enough to compete after his major spill at the TT Ramsey Sprint as seen on the TT Blues program.

The Manx Drag Racing Association would like to thank our sponsor Pokerstars who for the past 7 years have supported the event. We would also like to thank all our other sponsors Autosolutions, JCK Ltd, Macro metals, Compressed air services, Target tools, MC locks, Topcoat, Mannmotorsports.co.uk, Motaworld, Corletts, who’s help has also been critical in covering the costs enabling us to present a spectacular motorsport event, free of charge to spectate or for a very small amount, participate in.

Gates open 9.00am Saturday and Sunday, racing 10.30 - 16.30. The Jet Dragster will be running approx 12.00 & 16.00 on both days.

Provisionally there are 10 classes for cars and 10 for bikes but this is subject to entrants. Every car and bike will have a class to race in.

Details on how to enter are on www.manxdragracing.com or email info@manxdragracing.com or the Facebook pages search Pokerstars Drag Fest or Manx Drag Racing.
