Albany Tennis News

Congratulations to our men’s B team who have clinched the Div 2 title.

Unfortunately we have struggled to get players out for our other teams. I’d love to know why – as when I was younger I just loved to play in the league and tournaments. Nowadays people seem less competitive, or is everyone busy with a multitude of sports and hobbies. There is certainly no lack of activities to be involved in. We are now looking for players for the Mixed leagues, so if you are eager to play contact Jackie Russell by e-mail jackierussell@manx.net

Well played to the island U12 boys team who were away last weekend and had the daunting task of playing very strong teams including Yorkshire, N Wales and Durham & Cleveland and though they lost all their matches they played well. Their coach Ian Watson will be writing a full report but I thought we should name the five boys Roch Mirski, Jayden Go and Sam Skelcher-Maxwell from Albany plus Jack Christian who is a member at Ramsey and Albany and Scott Mason from Castletown.

Equiom Junior Open – entries have closed except for the U8 red ball event. Any player wishing to enter may do so by adding their name to the list on the board in the indoor court on Saturday but that will be your last chance.

Talking of competition, players should have a British Tennis Membership (BTM). We have had a lot of new members join this year and we would like all members to support this scheme – there are various benefits to the members and to the club including the chance to buy Wimbledon tickets. So if you don’t have a BTM do please register – it’s simple. Just go to lta.org.uk/britsihtennismembership and it’s free.
