The Department of Economic Development has appointed a consultant to review the Isle of Man’s communications technology.
Work will be undertaken to review the current position and potential options for the Isle of Man’s technology infrastructure with a view to developing a strategy for the future.
Analysys Mason, who specialise in global telecoms, media and technology, has been selected following a tender exercise earlier this year.
Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for the Department of Economic Development, commented:
‘The appointment of Analysys Mason is another step towards future-proofing our digital landscape on the Isle of Man. We pride ourselves on being a world-class destination for business and we must ensure our technology capability can sustain this in line with global expectations.
‘It is also important that the Isle of Man provides ICT and digital services to all members of society. The review will tie into the Government’s Digital Inclusion Strategy to ensure vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, small businesses and charities can take advantage of excellent connectivity. This is essential in ensuring the Island’s economy and quality of life is maintained and enhanced.’
Analysys Mason will be meeting with stakeholders and reviewing the Government’s strategic approach to a digital future. They will identify and report on what communication infrastructure will be required to deliver the strategic vision set out in Vision 2020 and Digital Strategy.
The report is due to be completed in the autumn and will then be put forward to the Council of Ministers for consideration.
