Bransom Bean, local business/executive coach and Secretary of the Isle of Man Yacht Forum, presented a global assessment of the superyacht industry to the second annual Malta Institute of Management I Yacht and Superyacht Symposium on 9 June.
The conference brought together over 100 delegates from around the world to explore developments in the global superyacht industry, Malta’s growing involvement in the industry and the Island nation’s rising importance within Europe which has become the epicentre of the industry.
“I was very pleased to be asked to represent the International Superyacht Society at this event,” Bransom who is on the board of the International Superyacht Society and its Education Committee chair commented, “Over the last decade Malta has taken advantage of its maritime heritage and geographical location in the Mediterranean along with its position in the EU to become a major force in the superyacht industry and is now moving from strength to strength.”
Bransom also contributed to a panel discussing HR and career issues facing yacht crew in a maturing and more regulated industry with ever larger yachts, 15 over 130 metres in length.
“To many, it’s a very glamorous and highly paid job,” said Bransom, “It also can be very hard, lacking much of the support taken as a given by commercial seafarers.”
During the symposium, a study ‘The Economic Contribution of the Superyacht Industry to the Maltese Economy’ was also presented which confirmed the significant growth in the sector and gave insights for Malta to drive this within the EU’s Blue Growth Strategy and Malta’s own Integrated Maritime Policy.
