A local mountain biker will have the chance to qualify for this year’s UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, thanks to support from Rossborough Insurance.
Nick Corlett, 20, who won four gold medals at the NatWest Island Games last year, has received ?500 from the local insurance broker to help fund his travel and equipment costs for local and national competitions in 2016.
Nick will be competing in the British National Championships, where he hopes to collect enough points to secure a place at this year’s UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. He will also be participating in a number of other local and regional races, including the End2End Mountain Bike Challenge.
Richard Hulme, commercial manager at Rossborough Insurance, said he was delighted that the business would be supporting one of the island’s most prominent young sporting talents.
‘Rossborough has been serving the Isle of Man community for more than a decade. As a local business we are committed to supporting the community through partnerships and initiatives such as this, and we are excited that Nick now has the backing to go on and achieve his dream of qualifying for the world cups this year,’ he said.
Nick had a successful year in 2015, picking up gold medals in the XC and MBT criterium races at the NatWest Island Games in Jersey. He also came fourth in the Under 23 British National Championships and second in the End2End.
Nick, said, ‘My primary goal for this season is to get enough points in the first two British races to qualify for the World Cups next year. I would also love to get a podium finish in a British round, do well again in the Under 23 British national Championships and win the End to End on my home turf.
I would like to thank Rossborough for offering to sponsor me this year. With their help I will be able to compete at the highest level and hopefully go on to achieve my dream of qualifying for the World Cups later this year.’
