Donation helps buy hive monitoring system

Youngsters at an Island primary school have a window on the world of beekeeping, thanks to a donation from estate agents Chrystals.

The Buchan School beekeeping club acquired two colonies last year, and fundraising to buy an electronic hive monitoring system has been matched by Chrystals.

The remote equipment will give the young beekeepers accurate information about the state of the colonies, and club organiser Alan Macnair current data to use in teaching.

The hardware has been supplied by specialist firm Arnia whose founder Huw Evans attending a beekeeping convention in the Island last year said " Bees are the ideal vehicle for educating children, everyone knows them, they are interesting, they sting people and make sweet honey!

"Arnia are glad to be helping children at The Buchan School better understand bees and their importance to the world as a whole."
