The Department of Economic Development has recently launched the 2016 Energy Awards and is now encouraging local organisations to submit entries.
This year awards are offered for Best Innovation, Best Practice and Biggest Savings with public sector and private sector organisations each having their own category in respect of these.
Previous recipients of awards range from large multi-national firms through to small owner/proprietor businesses.
Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for the Department of Economic Development, commented:
‘We would be delighted to hear from any local business or organisation that has made significant energy savings in the last year as a direct result of the actions they have taken to reduce their energy consumption.
’The Department of Economic Development is fully committed to helping business to minimise their energy usage as outlined in the Vision 2020 strategy and to ensure the Island’s energy policy is sustainable for future generations.
‘The awards enable us to recognise and celebrate those businesses who have made tangible, positive steps in their efforts to reduce their energy consumption. Greater efficiency is not only vital for profitability but for the continued sustainability of the Island’s energy resources. It is a great pleasure to both identify and congratulate industry champions in this area. ’
Alan Clague, Director of SCS, previous 2015 Best Innovation Winner for work at the Salmon Centre, commented:
‘Winning such an award has put our centre on the map, not only with customers on the Island but also with suppliers who have read the case study and want to know more about our low carbon energy strategy.’
Organisations wishing to submit an entry for the Energy Awards should visit www.gov.im/categories/business-and-industries/energy/ to fill on the online application form and upload any supporting material. The closing date for submissions is 13th July 2016. Further information can be obtained by contacting Richard Cuthbert at richard.cuthbert@gov.im or by telephone 01624 682367.
