Peel women clinch league and cup double

by isleofman.com 9th May 2016

First title for western women

Peel have secured their first ever women’s league title.

Maxine Smalley’s strike just before half-time was enough to earn a 1-1 draw against Douglas Royal at Ballafletcher and, with it, the Regency Travel Championship.

It completes a double for the westerners who clinched the FA Cup a fortnight ago.

The match was a tense affair with so much at stake.

Royal took an early lead through Donna Shimmin before Smalley struck the all-important leveller.

Elsewhere, deposed champions Corinthians defeated Old Boys 4-1.

Two goals from Jade Burden and one apiece from Lisa Costain and Shannon Groves ensured Amy Beggs-Cairney’s reply was a consolation.

Gymns defeated Douglas Athletic 2-0.
