Inflation edges up in April

by isleofman.com 6th May 2016

CPI rises but still negative

Inflation in the Isle of Man rose last month, but remains in negative territory.

April's rate as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose from -0.6% to -0.2%.

Rises in the cost of sea travel, lamb, potatoes and tea among a basket of goods and services checked monthly, pushed the figure up.

The largest price drops over the past 12 months are in the oil and other fuels and household equipment categories.

Meanwhile the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose almost half a per cent last month, when the annual rate of inflation went up from 3.4% to 3.8%.
