Vagas’ ladies twinning triumph

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2016

Vagabonds’ Ladies triumphed 87-29 over Ballamoney Ladies in a match arranged as part of the twinning agreement between Douglas and the County Antrim town of Ballamoney.

Vagabonds’ Alana Faragher said: ‘It was a great game played in good spirits. We played 12 aside with Vagas lending Ballamoney two players in each half. We really enjoyed the opportunity to play the Ballamoney girls and hope that this can become a regular touring fixture both home and away.

‘A big thank you is due to both twinning organisations for giving us this opportunity, which has made a bit of Manx rugby history in that it was the first all-female rugby match – not only the teams but also the referee, which was me.’

The Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Councillors Sara Hackman and Carol Malarkey, welcomed the teams and lent their support.
