Youthful Douglas beaten at New Brighton

Gregtastic Ramsey beat Moore

A young looking Douglas team lost 40-24 away at New Brighton in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

Bryn Snellgrove, Niall Killey and Steve Tansell all crossed for Douglas tries with Snellgrove converting all three and adding a penalty.

However, a fourth try, which would have yielded a bonus point, proved elusive for the visitors.

Despite the defeat, they remain in eighth place in the table after closest rivals Manchester lost at home to next to bottom Hoylake.

There were no points for Vagabonds in Cheshire South either as they made the long trip south to Stoke and were beaten 41-17 by Trentham.

Kev Birchall, Joe Louw and Andre Pretorius all crossed for Vagas’ tries.

The defeat means that Vagas drop to sixth place in the table after nearest rivals Heaton Moor were given an away walkover at struggling Knutsford.

A hat-trick for wing Greg Radcliffe was the highlight of a stuttering Ramsey performance at the Mooragh Park where they edged out Moore 34-26 in the same division.

Tries from Matty Clague and Radcliffe, plus two conversions and a penalty from Scott Kneale, saw Ramsey race into a 17-0 lead.

Sam Craven and Max Holland pulled back tries for Moore with Lewis Johnson converting one.

A second Kneale penalty before half-time gave Ramsey a 20-12 advantage at the break.

Radcliffe’s second try increased the Ramsey lead but when Adam Wadsworth and Holland both crossed for Moore and Johnson converted, there was only a point in it at 27-26.

Radcliffe’s third try in injury time settled any doubts and secured Ramsey a bonus point.
