Home defeat for Vagas

Douglas beat Manchester 24-5 in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One at a very muddy Port-e-Chee on Saturday.

Douglas youngsters Declan Horrox, George Blackwell and Luke Hyland all picked up a try apiece, with Bryn Snellgrove converting all three and adding a penalty for good measure.

The win takes Douglas above Manchester to eighth position in the standings.

In Cheshire South, Oswestry Eagles beat Vagabonds 35-13 at Ballafletcher and closed to within two points of league leaders Manchester Medics.

Cameron Howard and Josh Carine both crossed for Vagas’ tries and, when Carine and Eagles stand-off Fintan Grogan traded penalties, Vagas were 13-3 in front.

Oswestry hit back though with tries from Chris Hesketh and Luca Owen-Youens and the game was tied 13-13 at the break.

In the second half it was stalemate for 20 minutes before tries from Ivor Hughes, Gaz Hughes and James Anderson sealed them a bonus point win.

Ramsey secured a much needed bonus point win in the same division when they beat Trentham 44-10 at the Mooragh Park.

Dan Bonwick, Scott Kneale, John F Watling, Ali Trace, Greg Radcliffe and Jake Severs all picked up tries for Ramsey with Kneale also kicking two penalties and four conversions.

Ramsey move up a place in the Cheshire (South) standings.
