Firm's growth tracked at anniversary salute

Transport and distribution firm Manx Independent Carriers says embracing new technology has driven the firm's steady expansion over 30 years.

The landmark anniversary was celebrated by senior staff and clients at a reception at Douglas Rugby Club this week (10 March).

Chairman John Quaye traced the firm's growth from a three-man start-up in 1985 to today's Island-wide operation, which employs 159 staff and runs a 60-strong fleet of lorries, vans and tractor units.  

Mr Quaye said growth had been achieved organically, through mergers and acquisitions, and a dedicated workforce.

The internet proved a turning point, as paper delivery notes were replaced with bar codes and scanners, allowing customers and suppliers to track deliveries minutely. 

Bosses say technology continues to drive change and efficiency at Snugboorough-based MIC.
