Laxey & District Rifle Club member Nathan Holden secured two good results at the Scottish Air Pistol Open Championships held in Edinburgh this weekend (19 – 20 March). Competing against a number of English and Scottish national squad shooters that have competed at the Commonwealth Games, Nathan finished with two top 10 places - 5th place in the Senior Men’s Championship and 8th place in the Open Men’s Championship.
Commenting on the event, Nathan said: “The Scottish Open Championships provided a good opportunity to benchmark myself against shooters that are likely to be at the next Commonwealth Games in Australia, and as someone still quite new to the sport, it was pleasing to have qualified for the final in both of the Men’s Competitions. The experience I have gained there will no doubt assist me at future competitions”.
The Scottish Championships also ran an air pistol pairs event, ‘Air 50’, a relatively new team competition which was created by the European Shooting Confederation and used at recent European Championships. Unfortunately the combined score for his pairing was only enough for 7th place overall with the top four pairings going through to the finals of that competition, however Nathan still attained the 3rd highest individual score in that event, a great achievement for his first Championships.
Laxey & District Rifle Club Chairman, said: “Nathan is proving to be a valuable member of the Laxey & District Rifle Club and for someone who is reasonably new to the sport, is doing very well in the events he participates in. Following his success at the Island Games last year, he has continued to perform well and on behalf of the club and its members, we wish him nothing but the best in his upcoming competitions.”
Nathan’s next competition will be the Isle of Man’s Easter Shooting Festival being held at various venues on the Island from 25-27 March 2016, after which he will represent the club at the North Wales Airgun Open, which is being held in Wrexham from 2-3 April 2016.
