Following the retirement of Mr David North as Manx Radio’s Chairman in December 2015 the Radio Manx Ltd board have now appointed Mr William Mummery as company Chairman.
Manx Radio is the national public service broadcaster of the Isle of Man and the company, whose shareholder is the Isle of Man Treasury, provides a vital broadcasting service for the population of the Isle of Man.
Mr Mummery, who joined the Radio Manx Ltd board in July 2015 as a non-executive director is the Chief Executive Officer of Celton Manx Ltd. Mr Mummery already plays an active role in Island life as he is a Member of the Isle of Man Government’s Public Service Commission, a Director and Council Member of the IoM Chamber of Commerce, holds directorships with the Manx Utilities Authority and with E-LLan Cable and is Chairman of Housing Matters a charity which addresses homelessness within the Isle of Man community.
Before coming to the Isle of Man in 1991 Mr Mummery, who is an experienced international director and manager, spent 25 years with Granada Group plc which included 10 years building and operating National Television Broadcasting Corporation Studios and a transmitter network for the Swaziland Government and representing the Granada group on a global basis with Dutch Philips – Japanese Matshushita / Panasonic – Hitachi – Sanyo and Scandinavian Nokia Salora group.
Broadcasting has been an integral part of Mr Mummery’s life over many decades and he said, ‘The opportunity to lead the Manx Radio board at this critical time in the station’s evolution will be challenging. The station will imminently become recognised in primary legislation as the Island’s Public Service Broadcaster and the board’s task will be to ensure the station remains on a sustainable financial footing and that the broadcast infrastructure is updated to meet the demands of our listeners for the 21st century. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor Mr North, for his guidance and wise counsel at the station during his time as Chairman. His legacy remains in that the station is now far better placed to serve its listeners than it ever has been’.
