Premier sides prevail in FA Cup

by isleofman.com 13th February 2016

Most Division Two sides knocked out

Paddy Power FA Cup holders St George’s demolished Old Boys in the first round of the competition on Saturday.

The Geordies were simply too strong for their Douglas rivals, whose cause wasn’t helped when they were reduced to 10 men inside the opening 20 minutes following the contentious dismissal of Karl Clark.

With the scoreline at 0-0, that was the spark for the floodgates to open.

Ciaran McNulty (three, one penalty), Sean Quaye, Chris Bass, Frank Jones, Sam Caine and Callum Morrissey all found the net in an 8-0 rout.

The top flight experience and guile of Laxey showed as they overcame runaway Division Two leaders Douglas Athletic 3-1 at Glen Road.

Darryl Haslett opened the scoring within the opening few minutes before Michael Fernandez doubled the lead as the Miners were well on top.

Fernandez added his second, minutes after the Athletic keeper Matthew Quirk saved a penalty, to clinch victory in the second period.

Connor Dowell pulled one back for Athletic but it was a consolation.

Premier League Ayre were too strong for Division Two Colby.

Jamie Callister and Steve Barber were on target as the Tangerines ran out 2-0 winners at Andreas.

A last-gasp Dylan Parish penalty fired Ramsey Youth Centre to an exciting victory over Michael.

The northerners seemed comfortable as they raced into a 3-0 lead, courtesy of goals from Martyn Murphy, Matty Boyde and John Lund.

However, a Jay Chatwood double and a Steven Kelly goal brought the westerners right back into it and extra-time loomed until Parish had the final word.

Douglas Royal were given a battle by Foxdale before emerging 2-0 winners at Billy Goat Park. Craig Dolman and Paul Whitley were the goal-getters.
