Inflation figures for January

Ninth consecutive month of CPI deflation

The Island’s rate of inflation is stuck firmly in negative territory – but has risen slightly over the past month.

 

The Consumer Prices Index for stood at -1.2 per cent, up from -1.6 per cent in December and the ninth month in a row of CPI deflation.

 

Food, housing and health goods and services all dropped slightly in price over January, while alcohol, tobacco and clothing all rose.

 

According to the latest figures from the Treasury, the Retail Prices Index rose from 2.3 per cent in December to 2.6 per cent in January.
