Local undergraduates required for 2016 STEP Programme

by isleofman.com 3rd February 2016
The Department of Economic Development is seeking undergraduates to participate in the 2016 STEP Programme, which places students with local companies to undertake an eight week project during their summer break.

The 2015 STEP Programme saw 38 students complete a range of projects including creative, manufacturing, marketing and quality assurance.

Alfred Cannan MHK, the Department’s Member with responsibility for the STEP Programme, commented:

‘The STEP Programme allows the Island’s talented undergraduates to put their studies into practice in a real business situation and gives them the chance to obtain valuable workplace skills that can give them an edge on their peers in the work market.’

It is open to all local second and penultimate year undergraduate students who are on a full time degree at a University or College in the UK or Isle of Man.

Enrolment is simple and the benefits include a tax and NI free training allowance of ?210 per week, work place experience, personal development and the chance to work on a genuine organisational project. In some cases, undergraduates have been offered a permanent position following their graduation with the sponsoring employer.

Further information can be obtained by contacting stepscheme.ded@gov.im or 01624 682383 or by visiting https://www.gov.im/categories/business-and-industries/business-support-and-assistance/step-programme/

The closing date for applications is Friday the 18th March 2016.
