Update on NSC and Bowl

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2016
Work is progressing on repairs to the National Sports Centre and Bowl after they were damaged in the flooding on Thursday 3rd December.

The swimming pools, spa suite and fitness zone are open but the other indoor and outdoor facilities are not open yet.

The sports halls, squash courts and bowls hall are still drying out before sports flooring can be installed. It is hope they will reopen in May.

Work on the athletics track is planned to start next week (8th February) and it’s hoped the track will reopen the following week although it may be some weeks till some of the equipment in that area is fully in place.

Work to replace the astro-pitch, which was written off, cannot commence until spring at the earliest and it’s hoped this will be completed during the summer.

The Sports Institute is still drying out and will require redecorating, and equipment replacing. No date is given for this reopening.

Minister for Education and Children, Tim Crookall MLC said his Department was working with insurers, designers, contractors and suppliers to plan remedial works and in some cases facilities will be improved rather than merely replaced.

Minister Crookall added: ‘We have thankfully been able to relocate many activities to schools and other venues we are grateful for their cooperation.

‘We are continuing to liaise closely with the many users of the NSC and Bowl and we thank them for their patience while we restore the facilities to full use.’
