Browne Craine director to climb Mount Kilimanjaro

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2016
Craig Mitchell, a director in Browne Craine & Co (“Browne Craine”) has signed himself up on an adventure of a life-time which will see him take on the world famous Mount Kilimanjaro this October in aid of The Isle of Man Children’s Centre.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, with its summit being 5,895 metres above sea level. “Anyone who knows me will know this is taking me completely out of my comfort zone,” said Craig. “I don’t like to camp out, I hate wearing grubby dirty clothes, I’m not overly keen on insects, I like a hot shower and a shave every day, I get grumpy when I don’t get enough sleep, oh and I have a phobia of bats! Some people think I’m nuts, but I’ve paid for it now so there is no getting out of it!”

This will be a tough trek taking Craig, and the rest of the group, along the beautiful Machame route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the south, allowing gradual acclimatisation to the altitude and an excellent chance of reaching the summit. The charity trek will also take them through dense tropical rainforest, moorland and scree until they reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point. This is one of the most challenging charity treks at altitude, climbing one of the most impressive mountains in the world for simply breathtaking views.

“The Children’s Centre is an extraordinary charity and they do a lot of great work on the Isle of Man,” continued Craig. “They work directly with over 1,000 children, young people and families each week running vital services across the Island. I’m not setting myself a goal as to how much I’d like to fundraise, but I’m paying for the adventure personally so whatever I raise the charity will get every penny.”

“The Browne Craine team are really proud of Craig,” said David Craine, fellow director in Browne Craine. “This is such an incredible challenge and I wish Craig the best of luck in conquering Mount Kilimanjaro.”
