Douglas up to fifth

Douglas returned to winning ways in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One with a 32-12 win over Wigan at Port-e-Chee on Saturday.

Ben Webb, Karl Evans and Scott Goodall all crossed for first half tries for Douglas with Luke Hyland adding two conversions and a penalty to put them up 22-7 at the break.

In the second half, Akkie van den Berg went in for the bonus point try with Hyland converting and adding another penalty for good measure.

The result moves Douglas into fifth place after their nearest challengers all failed to pick up maximum points.

Vagabonds secured another bonus point win in Cheshire (South), defeating Congleton 47-5 at Ballafletcher.

Aidan O’Shea and Tom Gascoyne both bagged two tries apiece with other scores coming from Ross Pulman, Joe Louw and Ryan Pope.

O’Shea also kicked six conversions.

The win moves Vagas into fourth place in the table and they have two games in hand on third place Dukinfield.

In the same division, Ramsey finally clicked and claimed their first win of 2016 with a 13-5 victory over second placed Dukinfield.

Joe Spiers’ 20th minute try for Dukinfield was the only score in the first half and, with the conversion missed, it gave them a 5-0 half-time lead.

Scott Kneale kicked an early second half penalty to steady the Ramsey ship before Andy Cleator’s try put them 8-5 in front.

With 10 minutes remaining, Kneale went in for a try of his own to seal a fine win.
