Breast Screening Service moves to Noble’s Hospital

by isleofman.com 29th January 2016
The Island’s Breast Screening Service is moving from the Community Health Centre on Westmoreland Road to Noble’s Hospital, with clinics commencing at the hospital on Monday 1 February 2016.

The move to the new purpose-built facility is part of a joint-initiative by the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group and the Department of Health and Social Care to create a dedicated Breast Unit for the Island. It means that screening, diagnosis, consultations and treatment can take place in a single location, joining-up care and making it more efficient all whilst utilising brand new state-of-the-art facilities.

The new Breast Unit is located in the west wing of Noble’s Hospital on the ground floor. Appointment letters have been updated to advise attendees of the service’s new location.

One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some time in their life. Women aged between 50 and 70 (women over 70 can self-refer) are invited for a mammogram every two years, which uses x-rays to examine the breast to try and detect cancer at its early stages when treatment can be most effective.

The contact telephone number for the Breast Screening Service remains unchanged, 685339.
