Local charity makes appeal

by isleofman.com 26th January 2016
The ManxSPCA are running out of money.  Even though the Manx public are incredibly supportive, that's the sad reality facing the long established local charity as their running costs continue to increase.

Juana Warburton, the ManxSPCA's General Manager, believes there may be a misconception that as the charity and its work is so well known that they have plenty of money to fall back on.

Juana, added: ‘The Society has been fortunate enough to receive generous cash donations over the last few years from trusts and corporate supporters, but they are for capital projects and not running costs. As a result we have been able to improve the facilities for our animals, most recently completing the refurbishment of the Cattery’s quarantine and isolation unit, but we need to fund day-to-day costs. We run a tight ship here at Ard Jerkyll and we pride ourselves on being a responsive, 24-hour community resource, here to help all domestic and wild animals, but the continuing tough economic climate is taking its toll on our finances.’

They are appealing to their supporters to help them as they work harder than ever to raise funds. Whether it be through sponsored slims, swims or silences; dress up or down 50p Fridays; cake sales and ceilidhs.

If you have a fundraising idea, or if you can help the Society in any way, please get in touch with Juana (juana@manxspca.com).
