Isle of Man Archery Club Report - 24th January

by isleofman.com 26th January 2016
Twenty archers turned out at Onchan on Sunday to shoot a Worcester round. The Worcester comprises 60 arrows, shot in groups of five, scoring from 5 down to 1. The maximum score is 300.

It was very close in the Gents Compound division with Rhys Moore just edging the win from Pete Mumford by one point, with Colin Moore just five points further back in third. Dave Moore was breaking in a new bow and settle for last place.

The Ladies Compound was slightly more one-sided with Sarah Rigby posting yet another maximum score to take the win. Joy Gough suffered an uncharacteristic miss but still posted a decent score.

Josh Trafford was back on form in the Gents Recurve taking the win with a personal best score for the round of 280. Danny Cowin was just a couple of points below his best in second place while Tony Hartley took third. Dave Berry recorded a miss but still put in a decent score and John Hill and Alex Parkes posted personal best scores for the round.

Josh Trafford then carried on shooting into the afternoon to set a New Club Record for the Double Worcester of 120/554/80.

Fiona Parkes, shooting the round for the first time, was the only Lady Recurver in action on Sunday. Fiona only needs to shoot one more round to be given a handicap.

Lesley Sleight was back in action in the Ladies Bare bow. Like Josh she carried on shooting into the afternoon and also recorded a New Club Record for the Double Worcester of 115/429/26.

Most of the Juniors shooting in the afternoon were using new equipment or had had their existing equipment tweaked in some way and this was reflected in their scores. William Parkes took the win with a personal best score of 184. Joseph Reaney came in second just ahead of Toby Young, with James Hill in fourth.

Lone Junior Girl Tilly Ashton suffered a handful of misses which pulled her score down a little but still posted the second highest Junior score of the day.
